The Women's Initiative - Huila, Colombia
As a women owned and operated coffee company, we find it paramount to support women producers to end gender disparity in coffee growing regions. While we are united in the mission. this medium-dark roast has split our staff.
Some taste notes of green apple and caramel, while others swear they taste dark chocolate and marshmallow. Everyone agrees on tasting graham cracker and loving the creamy, heavy body.
We have carefully selected the coffee we use for The Women’s Initiative coffee to foster growth for women in their communities by providing better access to a living wage, land ownership, and educational opportunities to help close the gap for women at origin.
This coffee comes from Huila, Colombia and is fully traceable to women producers working with Programa Mujer Cafetera and the Asociación de Productores Agrícolas de Timaná (ASPROTIMANA), which supports farms owned and managed by women.
With training from SENA, these producers use their own micro-mills to process specialty coffee grown on small, diversified farms with careful hand-sorting, fermentation, washing, and drying practices. After processing, ASPROTIMANA partners with San Miguel, a family-owned exporter in Huila, to bring these traceable micro-lots to the international market.
This collaboration ensures quality control while helping secure better premiums that improve the livelihoods of women coffee producers and their families.
